It is hard to believe that the restaurant fire was 26 days ago. In an effort to keep you up to date on all that is going on, here are some more pics of the demolition. I wanted to get more pics of the building, but they started demolition 5 days ahead of schedule. Hopefully that means that we can open 5 days ahead of schedule.
This chair was in the upstairs conference room.
It is amazing to me that the material on the chair seems to be intact.
This was the fireplace in the lobby.
This fireplace is very special to us, it was the nucleus of grandma and grandpa’s 1 bedroom home in 1953.
A couple pictures of the Gift Shop.
This is the display that was under the stairs on the way into the gift shop. It was regularly decorated to reflect the changing of the seasons.
This was the octagonal display case that held the Harmony Kingdom boxes and some hand made jewelry.
This was my office, it was located on the second floor above the gift shop.
This is the kitchen.
On the right is our walk-in refrigerator, to the left you can see our convection oven and steamer. The prep area was removed last Thursday.
This is our steamer and convection oven. They sit on top of a 4 drawer refrigerator.
Our dessert case can be seen in the background. If you look closely, you can see the Blackberry Crisp and Creme Brulee on the top shelf.
Our path to the beach.
More than 150,000 gallons of water got put on the fire which caused some surface erosion on the bluff.
We have to finish demolition of the building and remove some trees from the ravine before we can rebuild the path.
This is what’s left of the building today.
This is the view from the 3rd floor of the 400s building.
This is the view from across the street. I just keep thinking there should be a restaurant there.
This little web reminds me…
Life goes on… That gives me comfort.

wow, praying that your rebuilding is prompt and better than before
Thank you Karey, that is exactly what we are working on.
That is just so sad, I’m so sorry! But, you are right, life goes on…and we are all looking forward to the rebirth!
Jess,
So sad and shocked to see these pictures. Just hopped on-line to check
your menu for this weekend, because we love to come for dinner when
we make a trip to the beach, and oh my gosh.
We have enjoyed so many wonderful meals with you all,
so glad to read that you are rebuilding. Will look forward to
eating in the new restaurant!
Wishing you patience, stamina, & good wishes.
Anne & Al
Thank you Anne and Al, we look forward to your return.
Hi, Jesse;
I get tears every time I look at the fire pictures.
Please remove some of the Negative comments from people who
don’t appreciate how SPECIAL OC is and have no understanding of how
difficult it is to run such a wonderful place.
THANKS for the progress updates and pictures.

Thank you John. I choose to keep those comments up, rather than try to sweep them under the rug and pretend like we’re perfect, because we do sometimes make mistakes. That isn’t to say that we have made all of the mistakes that others think we’ve made, but it is a reminder that we are only human.
